Chairman's message: East Midlands
It is with great pleasure that I am chairing the IET East Midlands Regional Network for a further year. I am encouraged by last year's efforts to engage with young people and the high attendance levels at many of the lectures.
Since becoming chairman of the region, the universities of De Montfort, Derby, Loughborough and Northampton have become academic partners. However, whilst there is a current momentum to supporrt those in academia and graduates, we must not forget those new to the industry or our more seasoned professionals.
I would like us all to take a more active role and support the Institution in helping to keep the East Midlands as a centre of engineering excellence in the UK. As part of building on the foundations, I hope this year's events will stimulate people into taking part and giving a little back though, either events like iRail, via the Academic Partnerships or encouraging others to attend the lectures and social events the various committees organise.
My personal aims for the region are:
-
To keep the IET at the forefront of engineering in the Midlands;
-
Provide support and training to all those interested in progressing in engineering no matter where they are in their career.
Thank you for all your continued support and encouragement but feel free to invite others, be they young or old, members or not, to join us at any of our events. The committee and I hope you enjoy the East Midlands Region's events and we look forward to meeting you all soon.
Marie Ricketts
Chairman of the East Midlands Network
