June 26 will give you a chance to get a behind the scenes peek at the complex and facinating world of bomb disposal.

Discover how engineering solutions are developed to overcome some of the obvious problems that working with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) can pose and find out about some of the less obvious issues that are tackled with some very ingenious out of the box thinking.

Engineering in harsh environments is one thing, but the engineers at Remotec UK Ltd deal with one of the most challenging environments possible, against constantly changing conditions and scenarios. This promises to be an exceptional lecture.

Our speaker Peter Green, from Northrop Grumman, has been the programme manager for the MOD's £65m Cutlass Project since 2010, and has been at Northrop Grumman for 16 years working in the field of unmanned ground vehicles.

NSSL is a secure facility and requires full registration for the event. You may register at the link below.

Event Feedback

General feedback and responses:

The Lakeside Restaurant, at the University of Surrey, is our main venue because of the excellent catering and ease of networking. However, it is not a tiered lecture theatre and does have drawbacks, but over the years members and guests prefer this ambiance to the more clinical enviroment of a tiered theatre.

Sound reinforcement is used when we consider it necessary and it is acceptable to the speaker. Due to the acoustics there may be problems in the central area which is beyond our control.

Delegates who are particularly hard of hearing should talk to an organiser who may be able to offer a better seating position.

Larger lectures including the Christmas lecture to school children and the annual debate are held in the main lecture theatre. From time to time, we also experiment with other venues in the area.

It should be noted that the IET Childrens Christmas Lecture held annually in December is designed more to promote interest in the sciences and engineering rather than to contain too much technical detail.

When holding our lectures in the Lakeside Restaurant we offer free refreshments which are intended to be "a bite to eat and a drink" - it is not designed to be a full supper. Although we have tried to tune the menu over the years we can only offer a fixed menu provided by the restaurant.
