Welcome

The Canadian Prairies Group of Chartered Engineers (CPGCE) is a multi-disciplinary group of members of the UK Engineering Institutions: ICE, IChemE, IET, IMechE and IStructE, who reside in Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.

CPGCE is actively arranging technical events for the past many years, bringing together industry experts, to get an update on projects, challenges, and opportunities. These events provide an excellent networking opportunity for professionals in a relaxed setting.

A cordial welcome to the Members of our sponsoring Institutions who have recently arrived in the Canadian Prairies.

News

Winter 2014 Newsletter can be found here.  Highlights include the AGM, the CPGCE Scholarship Award, upcoming technical programs including one on the flood of 2013, a summary of the presentation on computer aided detection of breast cancer in mammograms, the Calgary airport tinnel, tailing ponds, Lean thinking, Inherently Safer Design, Pipeline Projects, and Carbon Management.

The finalists from Calgary (Maria) and Edmonton (Brendan) competed in the Regional PATW on 10 August.  They both had excellent presentations and many of the spectators commented on the high quality of the presentations.

Mia Jovic, David Dean, and Ryan Going were delegates at the Volunteers Conference. Mia led a hilarious icebreaker where she got the entire audience to make a circuit.  Below is a photo of Mia with several of our Toronto members.  Mia will be representing Canadian Prairies o Council starting in October.

Congratulations are in order to Maria for winning the PATW competition at University of Calgary.  Her presentation was "Rapid Serial Sarcomere Loss Caused by Electrical Stimulation in Rabbit Triceps Surae Muscles".  Member Mia Jovic organized the event and CPGCE members Nigel Shrive, David Dean, and Bob Enever were judges for the event.

Please also congratulate Brendan, the winner of the University of Alberta Present Around the World competition on March 23.  Thanks go out to IET member Ryan for organizing the competition.

Brendan and Maria were competitors in the Regional Final in Toronto on August 10.
