The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Cyprus Network is organising a lecture entitled “History of technological innovations in astrophysics”.

Date: Monday 15th December 2014

Time: 18:00 hours

Venue: Frederick University (Tassos Papadopoulos seminar room), Nicosia.

Dr Stelios Tsangarides studied Astrophysics at Michigan State University. For his B.Sc., he was awarded the partial CASP-Fulbright scholarship jointly from the Cyprus and US governments, and was registered with the Physics and Astronomy College as well as the Honours College of MSU. He graduated in May 2001 with a B.Sc. in Astrophysics and he registered for a Ph.D. with Sean G. Ryan (one of the top stellar spectroscopists in the world), then at The Open University. His Ph.D. thesis, entitled “Abundances and kinematics of carbon-enhanced, metal-poor stars”, focused on the nucleosynthetic processes that are responsible for the creation of the natural elements in stars and the observational technologies that enable us to determine them.

The lecture, which is open to everybody, will be presented in English language and is free.
