Step Up!

Step up – your local engineering community needs you!

Hopefully over the years you will have been to some IET events in your local area. These events are only possible due to the hard work of dedicated volunteers – but now they need your help. Will you step up?

*** VISIT TO NATIONAL GRID 400kV SUBSTATION AT PENWORTHAM - ADDITIONAL DATES ADDED ***

Two additional dates have been added for this visit (Tuesday 25th June and Wednesday 26th June). Please see the main event listing below for details and to register.

*** LANCASHIRE SCIENCE FESTIVAL - VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED ***

The IET is participating in the 2013 Lancashire Science Festival, which will be running at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, on Saturday 29th June.  The IET has a ‘hands-on’ display featuring 3 professionally produced activities:
•             Wind turbines  - Magnetic mini turbines with blades of different size, shape and angle can be positioned on a metallic platform with in-built fans.
•             Electrical conductors and insulators - Various materials are encased in glass tubes with metallic ends and can be tested to see whether they are conductors or insulators
•             Mini-torches – visitors to the stand can make a simple LED torch to take away.

We are looking for members to help man the stand.  Members will interact with young people and their families visiting the stand help them with the activities, and talk informally about what it is like being an engineer.   No specialist skills, knowledge or training required!

If you are available and would like to help, please contact the IET Schools Liaison Officer for Lancashire & Cumbria, Kevin Burke on Kevin.burke@stemnet.org.uk, or 07825 598429

*** CHANGE OF DATE FOR THE 787 DREAMLINER TALK ***
