Step Up!

Step up – your local engineering community needs you!

Hopefully over the years you will have been to some IET events in your local area. These events are only possible due to the hard work of dedicated volunteers – but now they need your help. Will you step up?

Present Around the World Semi-Final comes to Beds & Herts!

Each year the IET organises the “Present Around The World” (PATW) Competition for young professionals and students.  This year the Beds & Herts Network organised the regional semi-final of the competition on 26th June at the University of Hertfordshire.

The keynote guest speaker was Abbie Hutty who works locally in the UK space industry. Abbie was the winner of the IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year for 2013 as well as the winner of the IMechE’s Young Member Visionary Award for 2013.

There were excellent presentations from five winners of the Community Network competitions with subjects covering: Optical Computing, Low cost UAVs, 3D Printing, Sound Simulation and Londons Sewage Overflow.  The judges had great difficulty selecting the winner and runner up because of the high quality of all the presentations

The Winner was Edwin Bowden Peters and we wish him every success in the UK Final on the 5th July.
The Runner Up was Abdullah Al-Shakarchi.
