Anthony Lister reports back after judging the Canterbury-Westland Schools' Science Fair - see the blog entry further down below on this page.

Lecture event for members and non-members alike coming up on Wednesday, 7th August 2013 at the University of Canterbury, College of Engineering Room E16. Talk begins at 6pm, light refreshments from 5:30pm.

Title: Electrical Power Quality in New Zealand.

It should pop up on the Events box below, and will be sent by email to all members who register for email contact.

Our thanks go out to John Sinclair and all our members and non-members who attended our 2013 Prestige Lecture. We were treated to a great presentation on Smart Grids and 'The Trilema' facing the UK of meeting environmental targets, ageing assets and an ageing workforce. The IET definitely has a role part in this. Analogies between the UK and the situation here in NZ were made, which provoked many interesting conversations between attendees after the event.

The presentation slides can be found in the Files section.

Congratulations to Yanosh who won the Christchurch area PATW competition last night. The judges were very impressed by his style of presentation and his obvious enthusiasm for his subject. It was also highly entertaining. Yanosh will now go forward to the national competition in Wellington in a few weeks time.
Unfortunately a few people pulled out at a late stage prior to the competition, so we felt we were unable to award a second place this year. But we know that Yanosh will be a worthy contender for the national prize and we are very hopeful that he will be going forward to the regional competition.
So come on all you budding presenters. Next years competition will take place in March 2015 and there is a cash prize on offer, plus the chance to travel to Wellington. Let's have more competitors next year.
